The Five Freedoms

  1. Freedom from hunger & thirst: Ready access to fresh water, and a diet that maintains full health and vigour.
  2. Freedom from discomfort: An appropriate environment, including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
  3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease: Disease prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
  4. Freedom to express normal behaviour: Sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind.
  5. Freedom from fear and distress: Conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

動物的五項自由

  1. 免除飢渴的自由：動物應易於取得新鮮的飲水，並獲得食物，以維持充足健康與體力。
  2. 免除不適的自由：動物應該有適合的居住環境，如藏身處和舒適的休憩處。
  3. 免除痛病傷的自由：動物應接受疾病預防措施，並迅速接受診治。
  4. 表現正常行為的自由：動物應有充足的空間、恰當的設施和各自的夥伴。
  5. 免除恐懼焦慮的自由：動物應受到避免造成精神受苦的環境與待遇。

外科大體老師紀念館：

1.台大獸醫專業學院的小動物外科教學：
台大獸醫專業學院的小動物外科教學，長期以來均奉行人道模式：在訓練大學部學生及住院醫
師的過程當中，我們未曾傷害任何一隻活的實驗動物。
2.台大動物醫院外科大體模擬手術的教學規劃：
依據台大動物醫院外科大體模擬手術的教學規劃，外科住院獸醫師在訓練期間，會在資深醫師
的指導之下，於捐贈的伴侶動物遺體上進行嚴謹的手術操作訓練。許多主人在心愛的動物逝世
之後，選擇讓牠在地球上最後的一段路途擔任我們的大體老師，來教導我們的外科住院醫師，
並且造福其他生病的動物。
3.紀念這偉大而無私的奉獻：
為了紀念這偉大而無私的奉獻，我們特別開闢這個紀念館，讓牠們的故事可以流傳下去，供人
永遠憑弔與追思。
